[Open]Your library: proposed new opening hours

Please take a few minutes to let us know what you think about the proposed new opening hours for your library.

Please use this online form (opens in new window). It includes the current and proposed opening hours for each library and asks your opinion about the proposals. The proposal is for the new opening hours to take effect from 1 September 2012.

This survey closes at 1pm on 9 March 2012. The form is designed to be easy to use. If you would like to give feedback in a different way, please contact Steve Makin on 01275 888 757 or by email.

The survey is open to any North Somerset resident or library user. You can only participate once in the survey though you can talk about more than one library. To help us get solid information that will really help the decision-making, please give comments in terms of:

    • if and how the proposals would affect you personally
    • the particular library (or libraries) you use or would like to use.

     ...rather than general comments.

Backwell and Banwell libraries are not included in this review of opening hours as they were reviewed separately in 2009/2010 and the changes resulting from that review are still being implemented.

The mobile library service is not included in this review, as there are no proposed changes to the current service.

Context for this consultationNorth Somerset Council has to make savings of £47.3million over the next three years, meaning that for every £3 we spend now we will only have £2 by 2015. As part of the budget reduction proposals, our library service has to save £347,000 over the next three years. To do this, the service has carried out a review. The review has highlighted our intention to continue to provide library services in communities that already receive them, to invest in services where we can and not to close libraries.

The review led to some proposed new opening hours which would take effect from September 2012. These proposed hours are the subject of this survey. This survey forms one of the main planks of consultation with library users and the wider North Somerset public over January to March 2012.
How to obtain resultsResults of the survey, and the library management team response to the results, will be available on this web page from 7 May 2012.
