This consultation asked for your views on a road safety scheme in North Worle, Weston-super-Mare. You can see a map of the planned changes (pdf, Jan 09, 5mb).
If you would like help in interpreting the plan, contact Paul at the address above.
Here is some detail about the proposed scheme (subject to funding).
The scheme proposals have been developed in close liaison with community representatives including local councillors, Local Action Team, Police and Schools, to try and co-ordinate a package of measures which will improve the quality of life for local people.
The proposals are aimed at reducing road traffic accidents and improving road safety for local residents, as well as improving accessibility and supporting school travel plans/safer routes to school. The main focus of the scheme has been developed around St. Marks Road and Ebdon Road, as it is considered that this will have the greatest positive impact on the local community. On St. Marks Road it is proposed to install:
• A Zebra Crossing near to the junction of Parklands Avenue.
• Enforceable 'School Keep Clear' markings at certain locations which will prevent parking outside St. Marks School.
• We are working to develop a School Park and Stride Scheme which would operate from Castle Batch Community Centre to allow for the reduced parking on St. Marks Road.
• School Safety Zone markings and flashing amber school (Wig – Wag) sign.
• Road narrowings at Parklands Avenue and Ladyewake junctions with St. Marks Road (reducing traffic speeds in the safety zone).
• Relocation of the bus stop directly opposite Parklands Avenue.
Ebdon Road proposals include:
• A Zebra Crossing (at the existing uncontrolled crossing point to the rear of St. Marks School).
• Additional parking will be provided on Ebdon Road for 4 -5 vehicles.
• Enforceable 'School Keep Clear' markings at certain locations.
• School Safety Zone markings and and flashing amber school (Wig - Wag) signs.
• A road narrowing at Southdown junction with Ebdon Road (reducing speeds in the safety zone).
Other proposals include:
- parking restrictions on Bishops Avenue
- flashing signs that activate in relation to vehicle speed on Beckett and Wansborough road
- barrier/footway improvemnts at various locations
