[Complete]Transport arrangements Pizey Avenue Short Breaks Service

Pizey Avenue Clevedon short break service is a new resource adapted to support people with learning disabilities living with their families to have a short break away from home.

We are contacting carers and asking them for comments and thoughts about plans to cease transport provision at Pizey Avenue from 1 May 2011.  We are particularly interested to hear whether this is likely to have an impact on being able to access the service itself.

Discussions have taken place with the Brandon Trust about the reasons why the current transport arrangements are not suitable.  In order to drive the vehicle itself staff are taken out of the Service, which then has an impact for other people using the Service.  Usage of the vehicle is aslo limited because of the need to pick up people up from lots of different locations.

Some people using the service also receive the higher rate of mobility allowance or have a mobility vehicle and it is felt that this could be used to travel to and from Pizey Avenue.

This consultation closed on 31 March 2011, 42 carers were contacted and 5 responded and were able to arrange alternative transport.  Letters will now be sent out confirming that transport will cease from the end of April 2011.
