    [Open]Speed Limit Review

North Somerset Council has been requested by the Department for Transport to review the speed limits on all its A and B roads.

The work began in 2010 and four of our A roads have been looked at and changes implemented. The last A road, the A369, and the B roads are on hold at the moment.

Following the first phase of the review the following changes have been made:

A370 - A 40mph speed limit has been implemented on the A370 in Hewish. It runs from approximately 40 metres north of its southern most junction with Palmers Elm in a northerly direction passed St Anne's School and the Full Quart pub to a point approximately 100 metres east of its junction with East Hewish Lane.

A368 - A 40mph speed limit has been implemented on the A368 in Churchill. It runs approximately 50 metres west of it junction with The Drive in a westerly direction to approximately 50 metres east of its junction with Greenhill Lane.

The review aims to make sure there are appropriate speed limits on the roads throughout North Somerset that will encourage road users to travel at speeds which are suitable for the area.

Speed limits are not set in isolation, but are considered as part of the bigger picture in relation to the whole area and the road they are on. They will be looked at to make sure they are rational, consistent, understandable and appropriate

The changes should mean a driver will be able to see why a speed limit has gone up or down on the same road. For example, it will go down as they enter a village.

You can see what changes we proposed for the A roads, as well as what the speed limits were in 2010, on our interactive map. Use the check boxes to turn on and off the speed limits on the roads then, and the proposals.

For more information or to give feedback on the plans visit the details of the review, make a comment or make an objection pages.

At the moment there are no roads open for comment. If you would like to comment or object to proposals (other than for those roads listed below which we have already consulted on) please register for this consultation and you will get an email when we are asking for feedback.

Please note: The consultation periods for the A370, A368, A38 and A371 are now closed. We are no longer able to accept comments or objections to proposals in relation to these roads, and if you do send us any we will not be able to take them into account.

We are asking people to give us feedback in writing, but if you need help responding, or need any of the information in an alternative format, you can contact David Bailey by email, telephone 01934 426 279, or write to David Bailey, Senior Engineer, Highways and Transport, North Somerset Council, Somerset House, Oxford Street, Weston-super-Mare BS23 1TG.
