[Closed]Weston Transport Package Phase 1
In September 2008 we asked for your views and support for the Weston Package Major Scheme Bid.
This is a bid for funding towards a package of transport improvements to reduce congestion and upgrade public transport links in Weston-super-Mare.
After getting your views a bid was put together and submitted to the Department for Transport (DfT) in April 2009. Copies of the bid documents can be viewed online at the Travelplus website and include a summary of the results (pdf, 79KB) from the public consultation.
The economic downturn has slowed this work and it means we are still waiting for DfT to respond to the bid. But, we hope they will soon agree to give us £11million towards the £15million low cost option from our original bid.
This would allow us to do improvements at junction 21 of the M5, as well as to the A370 between Winterstoke roundabout and Drove roundabout. We would also improve the interchange at Worle station by building a new car park, installing bus priority measures and improving cycling and pedestrian facilities.
This would tackle some of the congestion and transport problems we currently have and help cater for future development as the town grows.
